Initial Research

By walking around to bus stops in my area, inspecting the websites of both King County Metro and Sound Transit, and reflecting on my own experiences with the transit system, I made a design brief detailing SPT's audience, purpose, communication platforms, and general strengths/weaknesses.

Generally, the existing system was deemed to be not cohesive and quite unintuitive for tourists and public transit newcomers.

Main Findings:

Successful Experiences:

✅ Relatively affordable among all forms of transportation

✅ An easy riding process for users provided the right factors align

✅ Bus and train stops are placed logically

System Weaknesses:

⚠️ Visual system is not united ****between Sound Transit and King County Metro, despite having overlapping service areas

⚠️ No first-party mobile app exists

⚠️ Signage contains extraneous information and is not accessible to those in wheelchairs or with poor eyesight
